The photographs below show the George Mason statue at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.  In the statue, Mason holds his draft of the Virginia Declaration of Rights.  Written in the spring of 1776, it is one of the most important documents of the American Revolution.  It spells out virtually all of the basic principles of government and individual rights that Americans embrace.
